At GO AQS, our guiding principle is simple: Air quality is important everywhere. From the homes we live in to the streets our children walk, the right to breathe clean air should not be a luxury, it should be a guaranteed standard.
Today, we are proud to announce that GO AQS has officially signed the Mums for Lungs Open Letter, calling on the UK Prime Minister to commit to a new, robust Clean Air Act in the upcoming King’s Speech.
Why This Matters
The data is clear, and the human cost is high. Current air quality targets in the UK trail behind the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the EU. This legislative gap has real-world consequences:
- Public Health: Air pollution is a leading cause of preventable illness, putting immense pressure on the NHS. Since 2009, the diesel scandal alone has contributed to 30,000 cases of childhood asthma.
- Economic Impact: Pollution-related health issues have caused an estimated £96bn in economic damage over the last 15 years.
- Our Future: Children are the most vulnerable, with pollution-linked hospital visits leading to missed school days and long-term health complications.
GO AQS: Air Quality Everywhere
As an organization dedicated to the science and monitoring of air quality, we know that measuring pollution is only half the battle. To truly protect the “healthiest generation of children ever,” as recently pledged by national leadership, we need legislative action that mandates lower emissions and stricter air quality limits.
By signing this petition, GO AQS is advocating for a framework that ensures the air is safe in every postcode, not just a few. We believe that a Clean Air Act is the only way to achieve the health and economic stability our society needs.
Join Us in Clearing the Air
The deadline to sign this letter is May 10th, ahead of the King’s Speech on May 13th. We encourage our partners, clients, and followers to add their voices to this critical cause.
