GO AQS has officially become a supporter of Clean Air Night, a national campaign dedicated to protecting our health and the environment by highlighting the impact of domestic wood burning.
At GO AQS, our mission is built on the foundation of equity, equality, and the universal right to breathe clean air. By partnering with Global Action Plan for the Clean Air Night initiative, we are reinforcing our commitment to educating the public on the hidden sources of air pollution and advocating for science-backed standards in air quality management.
What is Clean Air Night?
Clean Air Night is a national awareness campaign run by the charity Global Action Plan. While many of us associate winter evenings with the “cosy” smell of a wood-burning fire, the campaign aims to shine a light on the uncomfortable truth: domestic wood burning is the single biggest source of harmful particulate matter (PM2.5) in the UK and other countries.
The campaign focuses on debunking common myths and empowering people with the facts:
- Health Impact: Wood smoke contains tiny particles that can enter the bloodstream, contributing to heart and lung disease, as well as increasing the risk of COPD and dementia.
- Environmental Impact: Wood is not a carbon-neutral fuel; it actually releases more CO2 than oil or gas for the same amount of heat.
- Indoor Air Quality: Even the newest “eco-design” stoves can make indoor air significantly more polluted than homes without them.
Why We Are Supporting It
At GO AQS, we believe that informed choices lead to healthier lives. By supporting Clean Air Night, we are helping to spark vital conversations about how our heating choices affect our families and our neighbors.
This January 22nd, we invite you to join us in “lighting up the truth” rather than a fire.
